Markaz recently sponsored a lecture titled “Strategic Alternatives: In Search of Differentiation” presented by Dr. Karel Cool, BP Chaired Professor in European Competitiveness and Professor of Strategic Management at INSEAD. The event was organized by the Global Centre for Leadership Development and AlKout Industrial Projects Company in cooperation with Kuwait INSEAD Alumni Association.
In his lecture, Dr. Cool addressed differentiation as the key to business growth and value creation. He explained how truly differentiated companies had been preforming in tough economic environment, pinpointing different kinds of differentiation that would lead to market success.
Dr. Cool also highlighted the factors eroding the success and rewards of differentiators, exploring the kinds of differentiation strategies that can lead to business success amidst the ongoing overcapacity and economic crisis. He also highlighted that over differentiation can lead to unfavorable outcome due to lack of market acceptance, and unjustifiable cost associated with such strategy.
Dr. Cool is the BP Chaired Professor in European Competitiveness and Professor of Strategic Management at INSEAD; his research, teaching, and consulting focuses on problems of industry and competitive analysis. He has also published his work in many reputable specialized journals.
The lecture was attended by Mr. Ali H. Khalil, Chief Operating Officer at “Markaz”, INSEAD Alumni, as well as a large number of executives from institutions representing a wide range of public and private sectors.
