“Markaz” sponsored a lecture by Dr. Karel Cool from INSEAD

01/12/2010

Markaz  recently sponsored a lecture titled “Strategic Priorities: Post-Crisis World” presented by Dr. Karel Cool, BP Chaired Professor of European Competitiveness, INSEAD, and organized by The Global Centre for Administrative and Leadership Development in cooperation with Kuwait INSEAD Alumni Association.

Dr. Cool commenced his lecture with an update on the financial crisis, and its impact on different industries and regions. In his view, the main problem behind the crisis is the massive debt, which continues to adversely impact private and public demand.  Also, the geo-strategic shift in industry leadership, for example the shifts toward China and India that we are currently witnessing, is structural and is causing currency tensions.  As a result, he anticipates a new round of industry restructuring.

His main message is that the disruptions in demand caused by the crisis is an opportunity for well poised companies to seize market share.  He backed up his message with examples from various industries which he had researched,  more importantly, he offered an effective and practical framework that companies can use to evaluate clients behavior, assess their industries, and develop effective strategies to capture market share by leveraging customer turnover.

The lecture was attended by Insead Alumni, as well as a large number of executives from institutions representing a wide range of public and private sectors.

Mr. Ali H. Khalil, Chief Operating Officer at “Markaz” said in his welcoming speech “On behalf of Markaz, I would like to welcome Dr. Karel Cool. We are happy to sponsor this lecture, and will strive to hold further events in Kuwait to exchange different points of views, and to enhance the transfer of knowledge and experience.”
