The Private Equity Funds Investments activity was initiated at Markaz in 1997, and consists to date of commitments made to 66 funds, currently 61, that are well diversified across Investment Strategies and Markets.
Alternative Investments have become an important element of any corporate asset allocation strategy plan due to its low correlation with other asset classes, thus providing a good diversification tool. The Private Equity Department seeks to build a portfolio of Private Equity Funds Investments that would generate returns in excess of those generated by the public markets to compensate for the high level of risk associated with such long-term illiquid investments.
Markaz leverages its relationships with General Partners, Promoters and Placement Agents to bring its clients investment opportunities that may otherwise be inaccessible to them, in particular top quartile private equity players such as Blackstone, KKR, Thomas H. Lee Partners and others at a minimal investment of USD 250,000. Thorough analysis and due diligence are conducted to select high quality investment opportunities as well as legal due diligence on the investment structure conducted by one of the top law firms in the United States. This is coupled with transparency in investors’ reporting.
As of December 2008, total assets under management are US$171.5 million
